Okay, to be honest I have never been much of a coffee drinker. Don’t get me wrong, I am a card carrying coffee house addict, but frappucinos with a shot of espresso or two were more up my alley. Imagine my horror when looking at the carb count in one of those now?
Giving them up was hard.
I have read a lot about Bulletproof Coffee, keto coffee and fat coffee. Basically the idea is to have something in the morning that not only wakes you up, but can keep you full until lunch and loaded with energy and focus. There are many variations on this theme, The BPC (or Bullet Proof Coffee) is an actual fitness brand. It is great but you can also make your own. So, I wanted to share my personal recipe as I have morphed it into something I find delicious and productive.
Ingredients: (Not all items are pictured. I realized that after the fact)
Coffee (I use ~10oz)
Heavy Whipping Cream (1 tablespoon)
Kerrygold Irish Butter (1 tablespoon)
MCT Oil (1 tablespoon)
Jordans Skinny Gourmet Mint Chocolate Chip Syrup
Cinnamon (1 teaspoon)
Unsweetened Cocoa (1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon)
Hydrolyzed Collagen (One scoop)
Now, because I generally do not enjoy hot drinks, I tend to brew the very bold full bodied coffees as the rest of the ingredients, including the ice seem to weaken the coffee flavor and drown it out. I am still trying out different forms but I am really enjoying Gevalia – Majestic Roast . Another favorite is the Starbucks Italian Roast Dark Roast.
I am still stuck with my old Keurig.. I have yet to buy myself a single serve
real coffee maker but I REALLY have my eye on this one: Ninja Coffee Bar Single-Serve System. But I digress.
Brew the Coffee.
First, add the collagen powder to the blender. (yes blending will mix the fatty ingredients better than simply stirring. MCT oil and butter fat will tend to be floaty if you do not)
Second, Add the coffee and then the rest of the ingredients. Blend for ~20 seconds.
Because I enjoy mine cold, I then add ice and blend to make it similar to a frappucino drink.
This keeps me full and energetic until lunch. Generally I only need one, but I have been known to enjoy one later in the day. This is also a great way to boost your fats.
Also- this is a fantastic way to get your collagen it. My hair and nails thank me for this daily treat. Now I don’t have to worry about making a keto breakfast of eggs and bacon, this is a relatively simple, quick and enjoyable substitute.
